Invest in Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro is located in the southeast part of Brazil. Its topography comprises of both plains and mountains. It is one amongst the smallest states but ranks second amongst the industrialized states in Brazil.

The city of Rio de Janeiro is the most industrialized in this state and is a good option for investment. However, other cities such as Sao Goncalo, which deals in cement and glass production, and Itaborai’s cement industries, are also good investment options. Duque de Caxias has oil refineries, chemical setups and automobile plants. Niteroi is famous for metals and glass industry.  The steel industry in Volta Redona and the automotive industry in Resende are also good options for investment. 

The largest rail network throughout Brazil is in Rio city. The state is well-connected through road and air avenues. The real estate sector is also a good investment opportunity. The serene climate and amenities are the main factors drawing a crowd to this state.

The state of Rio de Janeiro leads in the production of gas and petroleum in Brazil. It accounts for 53% of the country’s overall production. Petrobas, the biggest petroleum company in Brazil, is located in the city of Macae. Most of the fields of petroleum and gas come from the shores. The Campos basin is the most prominent among them. There is still a lot of scope for finding new reserves and hence this is a very promising sector for investment.

The tourism industry is also prevalent in Rio de Janeiro. The city of Rio comprises of both mountains and sea face, hence it is a very attractive place to visit. Carnivals also attract lot of people to this state. Besides Rio, cities such as Cabo Frio, Nova Friburgo, and Angra dos Reis and many others are also popular destinations. With global events such as the football World Cup happening in 2014 and the Olympic Games due in 2016, tourism is stated to grow. Hence, it is a very good option for investment. 

The Rio state has the largest naval base in Brazil. Angra dos Reis and Rio de Janeiro ports rank 3rd and 4th in Brazil in terms of cargo volume. Niteroi is known for maintenance of ships while Sepetiba is the main exporter of minerals coming from Minas Gerais. The fishing industry is also prevalent here. Investment in this area is also a good option. Foreigners are allowed to bid for conducting the dredging work as per new legislation. The removal of regulations is thus an added reason to invest in this industry.   

Many creative industries are also prevalent in Rio. Most especially, the television and fashion industries are at the forefront of creative industries in this state.  Hence, it is a good option for investment too.

There are plenty of investments stated to happen in this state to bolster its image and popularity with view of the World Cup and the Olympics. Thus, the state of Rio de Janeiro offers plenty of scope and prospects for investment.
