Investment Alagoas, Invest in Brazil

Alagoas is one of the smallest states of North Eastern Brazil with an emerging and growing economy thanks to tourism and sugar cane production. The service sector industry is the largest GDP earner for the state at 55.8% closely followed by the industrial sector at 36.9%. The states GDP share of the Brazilian economy stood at 0.7% in 2004 but has since improved significantly. The Algoas economy has largely been Agricultural, mainly sugarcane plantations and tobacco farming that is done in the Arapiraca city. The local alcohol industry is in decline but the chemical products manufacture from the state has performed well with brine being pumped from wells in the outskirts of the Maceio city. Over the last two decades, the tourism sector has gradually risen in the Maceio city with notable transformations in the Maceio tourism sector.  Famous for its pristine beaches and tourist attractions, the tourism sector in Maceio contributes a lot towards the economy of the Alagoas.

Even though its economy is still largely based on livestock and Agriculture as its primary sector, the coastal zone has concentrated most of the commercial plantations. Large areas where cultivation of rice takes place can be found in the Southern area and numerous coconut farms along the coast. Even so, sugar cane farming and processing remains the largest sector of the economy with a considerable of jobs and tax revenue. The Agreste has seen more diversification of products that is traded in the nearby market. As an emerging economy in sectors such as IT, real estate and others, the region is a potential hub for investments.  The presence of oil fields on land and off shore has brought considerable royalties to the Brazilian government. The SUDENE agency has funded several industries for local consumption. It is an agency that foments projects in the state.

The tourism sector in Algoas has continued to perform impressively attracting more and more tourists. The government has given incentives to investors that have seen the mushrooming of high-rise hotels to cater for the boom in tourist accommodation. Other than its Maceio capital, an important cluster is growing on the northern border with cities like Maragogi and Porto Calvo attracting tourists. There has been an improvement of the infrastructure and services industry to meet the burdening demands of this economic growth. The production of sugar and tobacco amongst others has consolidated the states economic position in Brazil.
