Unemployment rate falls to 12.2% in the quarter up to October, says IBGE

Movimento accompanies recovery activity in the Brazilian economy and resumption of hiring in the market

Following the improvement in the labor market, unemployment fell for the 10th consecutive month. In the October quarter, the unemployment rate fell from 12.8% to 12.2%, when compared to the immediately previous quarter. The data are from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), and were released on Thursday morning (30).

In the case of the employed population, there was a growth of 1.0% in relation to the previous quarter. In practice, this means that 868,000 formal and informal jobs were created over a period of one semester. When compared to the same quarter last year, more than 1.7 million people returned to have income throughout the country.

According to the survey, the number of employees with a work permit was stable at 33.3 million people, while the number of self-employed workers grew by 1.4% compared to the previous quarter (+326 thousand people).

The result of the quarter comes at the same time that the labor market reacts to the growth of the economy. From January to October, for example, 303.2 thousand formal jobs were created in the country, according to data from the General Register of Employed and Unemployed (Caged).

In relation to the immediately previous quarter, there was an increase in the quota in several economic sectors. The highlights were construction, with 169 thousand people hired; information, communication and financial, professional and administrative activities, with more 311 thousand people, and domestic services, with more 173 thousand people.

Yield

The average real income of the work ended the quarter ended in October at R $ 2,127, higher than the R $ 2,119 of the previous quarter and the R $ 2,076 recorded in the same period of last year.
