Unemployment drops again in August, says IBGE

Job market

According to the institute, the unemployment rate fell 4.8% in comparison with the previous quarter

The document reveals that the number of unemployed in Brazil reached 13.1 million people from June to August, a reduction of 4.8% in the comparison as the quarter ended in May. With the resumption of the economy, unemployment fell again in the country. In the quarter ended in August, the unemployment rate fell from 13.3% to 12.6%. The data are from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and were released on Friday (29).

In the case of the employed population, there was a growth of 1.5% in relation to the previous quarter. In practice, this means that more than 1.4 million people have been repositioned in the job market and have returned to income.

According to the survey, the number of employees with a work permit remained stable at 33.4 million people, while the number of self-employed workers grew by 2.8% compared to the same quarter last year (+612 thousand people).

In turn, the level of employment, an indicator that measures the percentage of employed persons, stood at 54% in the quarter ended in July, an increase of 0.6 percentage point over the previous quarter.

The result of the quarter comes at the same time that the labor market reacts to the growth of the economy. From January to August, for example, 163,400 formal jobs were created in the country, according to data from the General Register of Employees and Unemployed Persons.
