UK based firm G4S making additional investment acquisitions in Brazil with 51% stake acquisition in Plantech

The UK based firm, G4S announced Thursday that it will be strengthening its Brazilian foothold with the acquisition of Brazilian firm, Plantech. G4S, the world’s largest security firm, reported that its mulling further investments in Brazil and the acquisition of Plantech is a move in that direction.

Plantech is a Brazilian group focused on systems for securing airports, public transportation and hotels. The latest G4S investment deal comes as the second for the UK based firm in Latin America’s largest economy, Brazil. It is the second deal by G4S in this year’s summer, with the first acquisition being the takeover of Instalarme.

Instalarme was a Plantech rival in the Brazilian security systems sector and its acquisition cost the UK firm about 23 million pounds. The purchase, undertaken in June, was done subject to Instalarme’s year-end earnings. However, analysts believe G4S is keen on taking advantage of the 2014 World Cup to be held in Brazil and the opportunities it portends for security firms. G4S is just but one of the many foreign security firms that have recently forayed into Brazil as they look to position themselves to profit from the coming 2014 World Cup.

Just recently, global advertising giant, Publicis, was rumored to be in talks for a stake acquisition in Brazilian firm Talent, one of the foremost advertising companies in the country. Analysts have said the rush for Brazilian investments by major international players in the various sectors may be indicative of a move aimed at profiting from the coming 2014 World Cup to be held in the country.

Nick Buckles, G4S chief executive said Brazil has been on the firm’s target list for the last few years due to the growth potential the country portends for the firm. Brazil has the fifth-largest security market in the world, with an economy growing by nearly 6% this year. G4S plc (formerly known as Group 4 Securicor) is a global security services provider headquartered in Crawley, United Kingdom.

It is the world's largest security company in terms of revenues and has operations in more than 110 countries. With over 585,000 employees globally, it is the second largest private sector employer in the world, second to Wal-Mart. G4S Plc is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. It has a secondary listing on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange.
