Senate approves bill to return precatórios not drawn to public coffers

Public Accounts

For minister of Planning, Development and Management, the measure will contribute to the fiscal adjustment

The Federal Senate approved, on the night of Wednesday (5), the bill that cancels the payment of precatórios that are not withdrawn in up to two years. Precepts are values owed by the Union, states and municipalities to citizens who have won lawsuits.

In practice, the text, which now goes to the presidential sanction, allows these debts, when they become idle, to return to the public coffers.

"Approving the PL [Bill of Law] of the precatórios is correct and contributes to the adjustment of the public accounts," said Minister of Planning, Development and Management, Dyogo Oliveira, after the decision, in his Twitter account.

"The approval of the precatórios allows, at first, the attendance of urgent and priority expenses for the maintenance of essential public services," he said.

According to the minister, the federal government will release, until July 22, the report of revenues and expenses of the third two months with the budget changes before the approval of the bill.
