IPCA

Driven by lower food and beverage prices, the index varied 0.24% in July

After registering a drop in the last month, the Broad Consumer Price Index (IPCA), which measures the country's official inflation, changed by 0.24% in July and reached a 2.71% increase in the last 12 months. This is the lowest result on this comparison basis since 1999.

Given this performance, inflation accumulates, from January to July, a rise of 1.43%, the lowest result on this comparison basis since the beginning of the Real Plan in 1994. The data were released on Wednesday (9) , By the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

According to the agency, contributed to the result of the month the fall in food and beverage prices, which fell for the third time followed to 0.47%. Other important groups of products and services fell during the month, such as clothing (-0.42%) and articles of residence (-0.23%).

In the case of food, which corresponds to 25% of household expenditures, the drop was caused by lower prices for potatoes (-22.73%), Rioja beans (-5.39%), long-life milk (-3 , 22%) and fruits (-2.35%).

In the housing group, whose prices rose 1.64% in the month, the rise was mainly caused by electricity prices, which grew 6%.
