Northeast shows lower inflation since 2014

Cost of living

Household items and food and beverages were the groups that contributed the most to low inflation in the region

Inflation in the Northeast is at the lowest level since 2014. Data from the Northeastern Economic Studies Office (Etene), linked to Banco do Nordeste, show that the Extended Consumer Price Index (IPCA) of the region stood at 0.26% in July.

Among the nine groups surveyed by Etene, the groups residence articles and food and beverages were the ones that contributed most to the low inflation in the region, presenting a decrease of 0.60% and 0.05%, respectively.

For the economist of Etene, Aírton Saboya, deflation of food is a reflection of the improvement of the agricultural harvest, especially after six years of intense drought in the region.

IBGE

According to the Brazilian Institute of Statistical Geography (IBGE), the index accumulated in 12 months in the Northeast was 3.32% in July. In practice, this means prices with little oscillation and table more abundant for these Brazilians.
