INSS policyholders abroad must provide proof of life

Procedure is done with the Brazilian consular representations abroad or by means of a form available on the internet.

Every year, INSS policyholders need to prove that they are alive to continue to receive their benefit normally, including those who live outside Brazil. Therefore, to avoid non-payment, these policyholders need to make the “Proof of Life” with the Brazilian consular representations abroad (Embassies and Consulates) or through the form available on the internet ( And, in both cases, it is necessary to send the supporting document to Brazil via mail according to the indications described in the form itself.

I knew how to do it

One of the options is to have the Proof of Life through the Brazilian consular representation (Embassy and Consulates) located in the country of residence.

The other option is to use the Certificate of Life form for proof before the INSS  available on the INSS website, which should be apostilated. But this can only be done if the country is a signatory to the Hague Convention. This is an agreement between countries precisely to facilitate the processes of recognition of public documents produced in foreign countries, in a designated body in each country.

Check out the list of signatory countries at the end of the text . On the page of the Supreme Court of Justice (STJ) you have the complete list and other information.

The INSS Proof of Life Certificate  can be found on the INSS website under “Information and Transparency” and then “International Affairs”. Next, go to “Forms for International Agreements” and then “Life Certificate for Proof of Life before the INSS”.

Then simply send to the address in Brazil indicated on the back of the form.

The CPF number is required and can also be obtained from Brazilian consular offices abroad. Correct your data and avoid inconvenience.

Avoid non-payment of the benefit by sending INSS proof of annual life if you have not done so.

Credit for benefits from those who have not completed the annual proof of life will be blocked and after two blocks the benefit will be suspended. And thereafter, the termination (termination of benefit) will occur six months after the suspension.

In Brazil, proof of life is made directly at the bank paying the benefit. As phone 135 is nationwide only, the email address for INSS policyholders abroad for questions is: .
