Industry confidence holds the highest level since 2014

Optimism

For most of the companies interviewed by the FGV, economic environment should improve in the coming months

Industry confidence again rose in April. With the economic reforms and improved expectations of the Brazilian economy, the Industrial Confidence Index (ICI) increased 0.5 percentage point against March, reaching 91.2 points, the highest level since May 2014. The data were disclosed in this Friday (28) by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV).

Compared to the same period of last year, the indicator grew 13.5%. According to the survey, this month's performance shows a less pessimistic industry than in the past, although it continues to feel the effects of the economic crisis. "The good news is the consolidation of the advancement of optimism regarding the business environment over the six-month horizon," the report says.

Despite a slight worsening in perceptions about the current situation, 11 of 19 industrial follow-ups recorded an improvement in expectations of the evolution of the economic environment. The indicator that measures this item has advanced to the highest level since April 2014, reaching 94.4 points.

According to the report, the proportion of companies expecting an improvement in the economic environment over the next six months has increased, from 30.7% to 39.7% of the total. At the same time, the share of enterprises expecting a worsening in this item fell, going from 11% to 10.4% of the total.
