IBGE: industrial production rises in ten regions of the 14 surveyed

In May, Brazilian industry production continued to grow in most of the country and increased 4% compared to the same period of the previous year

In another sign of strength of the productive sector, ten of the 14 sites surveyed by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) showed growth in industrial production from April to May.  

In the national average, the industry advanced 4% in May compared to the same period of the previous year. It was the best result for the month on this comparison basis since 2010, when the indicator grew 14.3%.

The main highlight was with Ceará, which recorded an advance of 5.9%. Bahia and Pará are other places that posted positive results in the month, with growth of 3.6% and 3.1%, respectively.

Other regions also registered good results, as was the case in Rio Grande do Sul (+ 2.5%), São Paulo (+ 2.5%), Santa Catarina (+ 1.4%), Paraná ), Northeast (+ 1.3%), Goiás (+ 0.8%) and Pernambuco (0.1%).
