Guri project brings young people from Malawi, Mozambique and Norway

Presentations of the international band will be held in the interior of SP between May 22 and 31

A rich cultural exchange. This way the work done by the Guri International Band that brings musicians of different nationalities: Malawi, Norway and Mozambique can be defined. Founded in 2017 by Guilherme dos Santos, Guri Project's educational supervisor of percussion , the group brings in its presentations regional curiosities and legends from the countries of origin. The free events will be held in the interior of São Paulo between May 22 and 31.

"The success of the band is in the direct contact of the public with the cultural wealth. The way foreigners dance, play and narrate the curiosities provides a great approximation, "explained Guilherme dos Santos, a fixed member of the band.

The exchange is organized by the Musicians and Organizers Volunteer Exchange (Move) and carried out in Brazil by Amigos do Guri, manager of the Guri Project - the largest Brazilian sociocultural program, maintained by the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy of the State of São Paulo.

Formation

The cast varies according to the team of exchange students residing in São José dos Campos. The current line-up, for example, includes Mozambican guitarist Ivo Matine, Norwegian musician Ruth Hoff and Malian Darius Lumwira, who sings and plays drums and keyboard.

Besides them, there is also a participation of young foreign musicians based in the city of Marília: Sara Mugawa (violinist, dancer and singer from Malawi), José Luís Chimbia (guitarist, keyboardist and singer from Mozambique) and Trygve Lid (drummer from Norway).

The tour ends the group's season with this setting. Foreign musicians will return to their respective countries on June 3.

The initial set was attended by the Mozambican percussionist Calisto Rodrigues; Malawian bassist and keyboardist John Mchiswe; and Norwegian trumpeter Hannah Larsen.
