Central Bank Indicator suggests growth in April pulled by trade, services and industry

Driven by the recovery of industry, commerce and the services sector, Brazil started to grow again in April. Central Bank data show that, in comparison with March, the advance was 0.28%.

The figure is part of the Central Bank's Economic Activity Index (IBC-Br), a study that attempts to predict the behavior of the Gross Domestic Product before official disclosure. Every month, the evolution of the wealth generated by the country is verified.

In April, trade numbers were key determinants of GDP for the period. The sector grew 1% pulled, mainly by supermarkets. This result is important because it strengthens the recovery picture of the economy with falling inflation. In practice, the Brazilian begins to return to shopping.

In services, the scenario is similar. In April, the sector also grew 1% and had the best result for any month since March last year, when growth of 1.2% was recorded. The industry also contributed to the resumption of growth in the period, with an advance of 0.6% in production.

Disclosure of GDP

These results, however, still need to be confirmed by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), responsible for disseminating the GDP result. Figures for the period between April and June will be presented by the institute only in September.
