Faced with a record harvest, price of important items fell and food inflation recorded the biggest drop in 40 years
Eating in Brazil is cheaper. Until October, food inflation fell 4.56%, a record of the historical series. This means that in no other moment of measurement of this indicator the prices of products consumed at home registered such a sharp drop in prices. The data are from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Every month, the institution takes to the streets to evaluate how much the price of a series of important items for the Brazilian has risen or fallen.
Part of this drop is explained by this year's supersafra. According to information from Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento (Conab), the 2016/2017 harvest harvested 232.63 million tons of grains. This, in practice, means a greater supply of rice and beans, for example. The ration of the animals also became cheaper, which reduced the price of meat.
Among the items that have become cheaper are some of the important ones on the table of Brazilian families. Carioca beans, one of the most consumed in the country, fell 36.86% in the year. If a bean bag cost $ 8 at the beginning of the year, with that drop, it became cheaper and was bought for $ 5.05.
Traditional, healthy and inexpensive
The most traditional dish in the country was also taken into account in the year. In addition to beans, rice fell 9.97%; the steak was 6.71% cheaper. For those who prefer chicken to beef, the price of poultry protein dropped 9.93%.
